[007;0J] 'Korrae' Space_horizon_orbit_stars-1280x800

The Korrae System, otherwise known as the heart of the Korrae Union. As a system of nine planets and a single Yellow Dwarf Star of approximately 1.02 Solar Masses at its center, it bears a striking resemblance to the Solar System.

The first planet, Enix, is a terrestrial body roughly the size of Mars but twice as close to its star as Mercury is to Sol. Tidally locked towards it star, one side endures constant scorching temperatures whilst the other side bears temperatures close enough to zero. For obvious reasons, Enix lacks an atmosphere, and only a fool would consider the possibility of life on the planet. Due to its proximity to the star, scanning the planet would be ineffective and as shown by the lack of an intelligent presence here with the exception of a few, distant orbital space stations.

[007;0J] 'Korrae' Asteroid_colony

Between the first and the second planets is an asteroid belt, rich with all manner of precious resources which have no doubt been quickly exploited, as told by the vast network of mining and processing facilities and orbital stations built in and around the asteroids. Several smaller shipyards can be seen orbiting some of the larger asteroids, as it has been found that there is less cost in the construction of spacecraft when the necessary materials can be directly transported from the processing facilities to the shipyards themselves. One might also note that a small fleet, comprised of a few frigates, maintains regular patrols of the asteroid belt, usually for opportunist pirates or for any potential infiltrators from alien governments and factions. Occasionally, one might be seen in a skirmish with the former, who tend to use cargo ships and transport shuttles re-fitted with cheap weaponry and armour instead of the high-tier equipment that naval vessels are fitted with. Due to this, they tend to either surrender or end up becoming part of the thin field of space debris left behind by antiquated vessels and probes from the early days of the Korrae Union.

[007;0J] 'Korrae' Neolotus1-800x600

The second planet, Sueto, is about two thirds the Earth's diameter yet possesses a much thicker atmosphere, very similar to Venus'. Due to the large percentages of greenhouse gasses found in its atmosphere alongside the close proximity to its star, the planet possesses incredibly high surface temperatures to the point that most of the surface is comprised of a 'sea' of molten rock whilst what little land has been used as sites for automated defense systems comprised of high-precision lasers, missile silos and mass accelerator drives.

[007;0J] 'Korrae' MQO_class_planet__by_Voyager212

The third planet, Xenu, is the most unique of the system's planets. Despite possessing eight times the Earth's mass, being 1.8 times its size and consequentally bearing twice the gravity at an intimidating 2gs, it has a relatively diverse, if hardy ecosystem, due in no small part to its Earth-like atmosphere. Since it is located in the star's habitable zone equivalent to the area between Earth and Venus, temperatures on Xenu are significantly warmer, ranging from an uncomfortable 40 degrees Celsius in the Southern Regions to a comfortable low of 15 degrees Celsius, particularly in the Northern Regions. Areas below these temperature are present, though they cover a very small portion of the surface and tend to be located in the Northernmost areas more than anywhere else. As a result of all this, a large portion of Xenu's surface is dominated by deserts, rocky plains and dry areas of grassland, though this seems to have taken little to no effect on the Oceans. Near the coast, areas are somewhat more accomodating for life, with flourishing areas of grass, trees and so on becoming less of a rarity as one approaches the coastline. Xenu possesses a single moon known as Manriu, which is similar to Ganymede in both size and appearance, though it is slightly further away from Xenu than Luna is from Earth. Being at the heart of the Korrae Union, Xenu is surrounded by a network of orbital planetary defences, shipyards and frequent naval patrols, alongside usual shuttle traffic, both civilian and otherwise.

Tratiu, the fourth planet, is a blue Gas Giant of similar size to Saturn existing within the habitable zone of its star. Despite its Helium-3 rich atmosphere, it is not as remarkable as its largest moon, Indra, which happens to resemble Earth in more ways than one. With 89% of the Earth's mass, plate tectonics, oceans and an atmosphere, Indra is a garden world, flourishing with life. On the ground, thick jungles cover 87% of the surface and prove to be the habitat of a diverse variety of various different species of wildlife, from carniverous plants to car-sized amphibians. Despite this, its atmosphere is more than toxic to Humans, with a composition of 33% Oxygen, 47% Nitrogen, 18% Carbon Dioxide, 1% Hydrogen Sulfide and a final 1% comprising of a mixture of Xenon, Methane and Ammonia. If it weren't for this, Indra might be considered an idealistic paradise for Human Colonists to settle, assuming it wasn't occupied. Like Xenu, a network of defenses and naval patrols can be seen in place, alongside Helium-3 Mining Stations which are used to extract the material from Tratiu for use as fuel.

[007;0J] 'Korrae' Earth

The fith planet, Quisar, possesses only half the mass of Xenu and is about 1.5 times the size of the Earth, at a more accomodating 1.23gs. However, it exists on the very edge of the habitable zone, locking it in a permanent ice age with a surface encased in ice at constant temperatures of -92 degrees Celsius. In addition, its atmosphere is a toxic concoction of Nitrogen, Argon and Helium, with smaller concentrations of Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide. Due to this, a lengthy terraforming effort is currently underway, utilising equipment based off that which was used by early Human Colonists during the terraforming of Mars. To help in the process of melting the ice to form oceans, vast orbital mirrors which serve to concentrate the star's heat have been constructed around the planet, though it's evident that they've been there for no more than a few years, at best. For now, all buildings and facilities located on the surface have been equipped with pressurised blast doors in order to prevent the toxic atmosphere from seeping inside, whilst a significant number of underground cities exist, usually within the depths of the ice and the salty waters beneath it. It might also be noted that the few native lifeforms on the planet live under the ice, within waters which are too salty to freeze. A single moon of approximately 1.19 Lunar masses remains within its orbit.

The sixth planet, Scerz, is a Gas Giant with double the mass of Neptune. Surrounded by various different moons and an asteroid belt which can be seen from quite a distance away, it is a viable source of Helium-3 and as such is surrounded by several orbital stations being used as a hub for the mining operations. A few buildings can also be seen on the surfaces of the Gas Giant's various moons, indicating that a colonisation and mining effort is currently going underway in that particular region.

Inusan, the seventh planet, is a 'Gas Dwarf' of approximately half the mass of Uranus, with a similar composition. Due to this, the Korrae Union's presence here has been relatively minimal. Instead, the primary focus is on its several moons, which harbour resources such as titanium and iron.

Xerith, the eight planet, is by far the largest of the system's planets, being a Gas Giant of approximately 2.5 Jupiter masses. Fortunately, it is too far away from the Inner Planets to have a negative gravitational influence on them. This however, has also helped in protecting Xenu from any major asteroid or comet impacts, as the relatively high gravity often traps these objects in its orbit. With over 89 moons and a thick asteroid belt that can be seen from a small telescope on Xenu and Indra during the night, Xerith and its local region is rich with many resources, from Helum-3 to titanium. As such, the Korrae Union has been quick to exploit these resources, as evidenced by the many orbital space stations, cargo shuttles and mining facilities built into the larger moons, whilst several colonies have also been recently established across the Gas Giant's largest five moons.

[007;0J] 'Korrae' IceBall_by_xupisco

The ninth and final planet, Reahz, is a Venus-sized ball of ice at temperatures of below freezing. What little atmosphere that exists is a thin layer of Nitrogen and Carbon Monoxide, and the temperatures drop to below -300 degrees Celsius. Due to this, the few colonies and outposts which exist across Reahz contain carefully pressurised environments with specialised climate control conditions. Despite all this, Reahz does serve a relative important purpose, as several defensive facilities have been built across it in order to help protect the system from any would-be invaders. It possesses a few moons, albeit they are essentially glorified chunks of ice and rock, similar to Charon in both size and shape.

Numerous sattellites around Xemu's atmosphere would lose contact in a single instant, as if something had swallowed them. In their place, the signature of a capital-class ship appeared brightly on sensors... And it gave off an intense radiological signature.

Korrae
Xerith Command

"Sir, we've just detected multiple sattelite blackouts in low orbit above Verhaz Sector. Readings indicate that..."

The Junior Communications Offcer froze as the one massive signature materialised on the screen, giving off readings which would indicate none other than a capital ship. Fortunately for him, Councillor-General Wruhm Harz was quick to respond, having taken the opportunity to personally examine the Officer's screen, only to stare in great shock at what he'd come to witness. Readings indicated that the ship was approximately 4.5 Kilometres in length, and directly overhead one of the most populous regions on the planet, which included the Capital City of Rhangzhen, with a population of almost fifteen million alone, excluding the near-two billion residents across the rest of the Region.

The Union Navy had been prepared for an intrusion into the system by the Nakar, but not like this, not this far into their territory, at the very doorstep of one of their two capital planets. To him, the thought of just a cruiser managing a silent jump this close to such a monitored planet was far-fetched, let alone a capital, and the only possible explanation that occurrred to him was enough to make him even more uneasy, reminding him of the Wren Harz incident. Without hesitation, he quickly barked out his orders to the Junior Officer and his colleagues.

"Initiate Alert Sequence One, we are dealing with a Class Ten Capital Spacecraft at dangerously close proximities to Densely Populated Civilian Sectors. All available Naval Units are to deploy and intercept, Code One active! All non-essential personell planetside are to evacuate or retreat to the nearest below-ground protective shelter, NO EXCEPTIONS WHATSOEVER, am I clear?!"

"Understood sir." Was the response the Councillor-General recieved in unison from his subordinates, and as the orders quickly spread like wildfire across the system, the Spacecraft which had previously been deployed near the borders of the system, alongside those who had yet to be deployed, immediately began preparations for moving. Planetside, the civilian populace, particularly in Verhaz Sector and Rhangzhen, began to mobilise as local authorities began to mobilise and escort the confused populace to the designated underground protective shelters which were scattered across urban areas, first built in the wake of the Human-Alerai war out of fear that Xenu would be the target of reprisals from embittered Alerai Naval Remnants or Extremist Human Nations, fearful of the Korrae Union attempting to avenge the Alarei. A single transmission was broadcast in Modern Xenioa, the Official Language of the Union which had been based on various Rakhan Dialects.

"++Attention Unidentified Vessel, this is Xerith Command. You are tresspassing in the territory of the Korrae Union and are in violation of Union Regulation Codes E64Z, T628V and I394O. You are directly endangering a civilian sector, and are hereby ordered to disable your engines and weapon systems, and immediately identify yourself, over++"

Those who were too far from or couldn't travel to the shelters, located deep beneath the surface, either remained where they were or began to depart via whatever means necessary. But nobody was prepared for what would follow, that would only serve to inspire more fear in the Councillor-General. An intense radiological signature could mean only one thing: Nucelar Weapons. His homeworld, the place where he had been born and raised, faced the same fate as that of the Alarei and Human Homeworlds. No. He couldn't allow it. He wouldn't allow it, Great Hnen be damned. Continuing, he began to bark out further orders to his subordinates.

"Alert, I repeat, this is a CLASS ONE NUCLEAR ALERT. Unknown Capital Ship is armed and priming nuclear weaponry, I repeat, UNKNOWN CAPITAL SHIP IS ARMED AND PRIMING NUCLEAR WEAPONRY. Initiate and deploy all available planetary countermeasures and defences, including kinetic asteroid shields. Capital Ship is now designated as Hostile, all Units, you are free to attack. Bring that target down whatever means necessary, but do not allow it to deploy those weapons!"

With that, the sirens began to blare out across the cities, serving only to inspire panic in some whilst others were a little more orderly. Those with easy access to shuttles were going about trying to leave the planet for Indra or Quisar. Meanwhile, over urban and other populous areas, shielding systems normally intended for use against asteroids were activated out of hope that they might provide what little additional protection against nuclear warheds that they could, and formerly inactive or otherwise dormant planetary defense systems sprung to life, as Guardian Lasers and Rocherx Interceptor Missiles prepared for activation, whilst just over half the fleet frantically began to mobilise towards the capital.

Judgement Day was here.

The enormous capital ship positioned itself in geostationary orbit over Xemu's most highly populated city, and rotated so its starboard nuclear launch tubes were facing it. The blast doors opened, and the radiation signature became all the more intense; it had no intention of stopping its preparation for a genocidal attack.

Xenu
Engagement Zone

Closing in fast, the first of the fleet's ships were soon in engagement range of the Dreadnaught and were prepped for their assault. When explained, their objective was relatively simple; disable the Dreadnaught and prevent the launch of its nuclear payload. Everyone knew that if those MIRVs were launched, and were able to impact Rhangzhen and the area surrounding it, everything would be over. Verhaz Sector would be rendered a barren wasteland, devoid of life save for the few unfortunate survivors. It would be possible that the underground protective bunkers would withstand the blast and shield the inhabitants from the radiation, but those odds were slim, and the asteroid shields weren't designed to stand up to Antimatter Warheads. If the MIRVs were launched, it would be up to the planetary defence to deal with them, and whilst the odds were in the Union's favor, they didn't want to chance it.

"++This is Councillor-General Harz to the Union Fleet. You are weapons-free, I repeat, you are weapons-free. Disable that vessel before it can launch its payload. Remember that the heart of our people, our homeworld, our friends, our families - our very civilisation, is at stake here. Great Hnen be with you, Harz out++"

With that, the first wave of ships, comprised of Frigates and a number of Fighters which had been deployed both from Xenu and the rear Cruisers, began their assault.

Engagement Zone
Fighter Unit "Variz"

Junior Flight Officer Wren Garvz uneasily pressed back against the seat of his Mark V Quisar-Class Fighter. No doubt, he wasn't the only one in his unit who was nervous, or afraid. After all, this was the first time he'd ever seen any form of action outside of one-sided skirmishes with rogue pirate vessels, and this time the enemy posed a genuine threat. He'd experienced over four hundred and thirty hours' worth of flight simulations with various scenarios, from engaging rogue Union Vessels to an unknown alien threat, but they were nothing compared to this.

For one - there was the real possibility of death, and ultimately the possibility of his race's homeworld, complete with over twenty thousand years' worth of civilisation, being obliterated into nuclear ash. It didn't ease his mind that both his parents and his younger sisters were in Rhangzhen, and as the force of the fighter's acceleration pushed him further back against the padded seat, he thought of his family, his friends and the people who were relying on him right now. Reminded of what he was fighting for, he took a single, deepened breath, before staring down the Alarei Fighter Squadron which lay ahead of him.

"++Variz Unit, you are free to engage. Push through the Hostile Units and target their Capital Ship's missile silo. I repeat, target their missile silo. Xenu is counting on you, we are counting on you, out++"

With that, the Junior Officer let out a defiant roar and with the rest of his unit, began to engage the Alarei Fighter Squadrons which lay between them, utilising a multitude of energy-based cannons and missile pods. In terms of power, the odds were in the favor of the Union, who utilised fighters which packed more of a punch than the Alarei fighters to compensate for the limited storage space of the relatively cramped hangar bays which most Union Navy Ships possessed. Meanwhile, planetary defences were utilised to great effect, as ground and orbital-based cannons began to turn their attention towards the vital areas of the Alarei Dreadnaught - weapon systems, engines, but the primary targets were the missile silos.

A barrage of missiles, energy-based laser cannons and kinetic slugs were fired directly at the Dreadnaught, and it soon became aparrent that the Korrae Union were more than dedicated to the protection of their people and their homeworld. Fighter Craft engaged in dogfights in each other whilst Frigates and Cruisers delivered their payloads, directing their fire towards the weapon subsystems and missile silo, delivering a double-pronged attack against the Alarei Dreadnaught.

The dreadnought wobbled as the weapons hit it, and that was the end. It had not been built to withstand such firepower; it simply couldn't survive it. Within seconds of the barrage commencing, the power cores were hit by several explosive shells and detonated in a bright aurora of blue and green and a flash of blinding light. The battle was over before it had even started, and only the wreckage of the capital ship remained as its reminder.

Xenu
Orbit

Some of the wreckage from the Capital Ship plunged towards the planet below, some of it burning up in the atmosphere whilst others were able to survive entry. Fortunately, these pieces either impacted unoccupied areas of land or were fended off by the asteroid shields, prompting a celebratory cheer and a roar of defiance from Naval Personell across the system. Yet, this optimism was not present in all, particularly the Councillor-General.

The simple matter was that it had been too easy. Of course, the odds had always been in their favour, but even then, the battle had been 'won' within a relatively brief amount of time. For a Capital Ship of such size and nature, that had been able to silently access a system and directly enter a planet's orbit, it seemed too convenient. No doubt, the Alarei, or should he say, the remnants of the Alarei, intended to delivery a destructive nuclear payload to Xenu which would have killed millions upon millions, not to mention rendered entire areas uninhabitable for centuries. They had faced a potential situation that would have, in comparison, made Earth look like a minor fusion reactor leak.

He didn't like it, not a single bit, but there were other matters to attend to: Arvak Station had reported one of the Dreadnaughts in orbit of Arrakis, and Great Hnen be damned before he'd allow their main mining-spot to be rendered more of a barren waste than it already was.
