Admiral Jones nodded approvingly at the report. After the embassy staff was evacuated from the former Council Station, the Carentan Battle Group had used the jump gate to travel to Sol, and then headed for the Artemis Tau 7 solar system. The President had been adamant that the meeting be held in neutral ground and not on Sanctuary or Earth, and he had begrudgingly complied: the Carentan needed a few days in drydock to repair the structural damage from the nuclear detonation, and there was also the sad task of planning the funerals for the service members that died during the defense of Kal'Bavakorian space.

"Very well. Start broadcasting our message, I will be in my office. Commander, you have the conn."

"I have the conn, aye. Chief of the Watch, note the time in the ship's log."

"XO has the conn, aye. Time noted in the ship's log. Current heading is zero six five mark one one three, velocity is twenty thousand kilometers per hour."

"Dear Mrs. Jerayesh... I regret to inform you... No, this doesn't sound right."

The Admiral tapped the backspace button on his keyboard again, erasing the written message. He had been struggling for almost an hour to write the letters to the families of the deceased crewmen, and so far, he had nothing. It had been a long time since he had last written a casualty letter, what with the almost zero number of hostile contacts. He was about to start over when the phone rung, and he picked it up in a slow manner; he wasn't in a mood for conversation.

"CO."

"XO. Admiral, we have received a transmission, you might want to get to CIC."

"I will be right there."

"Councillor-General, the second fleet has reported in. Every ship has successfully completed jump phrase, no issues reported, sir."

C-G Wruhm Harz merely gave a silent nod of acknowledgement as one of his subordinates verbally delivered the report, his thoughts otherwise occupied on the emergency summit which awaited he and High Councillor Feris Zhan, who'd decided to postpone his yearly 'sanctuary' week in his remote estate on Xenu in favour of attending the summit. Both had been noticably affected by the turn of recent events, and with the Galactic Council already dissolving not a week after it's creation, things were rather dire. The Alarei were a threat, and their attempt to launch a nuclear payload of MIRVs at the Union's worlds has roused them from their normal state of peacetime. Whilst it was small, almost insignificant when compared to the casualties suffered by others, three casualties had resulted from the attack on the Korrae System; all of them fighter pilots, one of which was a close friend of Harz's nephew. It was three casualties too many, both for him and the entirety of the Union.

With the Union Navy's Second fleet having now arrived at the system, with the Rhang Hnen, arguably the most powerful and well respected ship in the entirety of the Union, at the head of it, the two were prepared to engage in the summit to secure the safe future for their people. Soon after, a message was broadcast.

"++United System Forces, this is the UNC Rhang Hnen. The Second Fleet of the Union Navy is here, and we are prepared to begin the summit at your discretion++"

The Bridge

The ship gave a slight jerk forward as it exited the jump. The thick metal blast doors on the bridge's windows slowly retracted. Captain Zygboyum held her chin high, glancing over the bridge. "Tovarisch Kaptionniy, all ships accounted for, ma'am!" The Captain nodded,"Affirmative, prepare communications, put two kilometers of space inbetween each ship."

The Captain turned and walked out the bridge, stepping into an elevator and making her way to another part of the ship. The elevator jerks, going up, then making a sideways motion along the ship. It stops, making an audible 'ding' sound, the Captain steps out and walks down the hall, turning towards a door with two marine guards standing. They click their feet together and salute as she passes through the door.

Inside the room is a long table with a single phone in the center. An older man is turned away from the Captain, holding the receiver to his head. He wheezes as he speaks,"Yes sir... to the dot.. Yes... Good bye."He turns and sets down the receiver, looking at the Captain, his augments very apparent in his pale face. Blue veins run down his scarred face, and if one were to look hard enough, his chest is replaced with a metal chassis. He seems to have sustained grievous wounds and is assisted by a breathing device. He starts to walk towards the door,"Captain, good to see you. Let us begin." The Captain nods curtly, turning swiftly towards the door,"Yes, Tovarisch Lord-Admiral."

The two heavily armed soldiers break off from guarding the door and follow the two officers into the elevator, making their way back to the bridge. The Lord-Admiral steps in, the bridge standing at attention, he waves them off,"At ease.." He steps up the stairs to the Captain's control room, a communications officer holds out a receiver to him. His robotic arm seizes it as he clicks down on the button. He speaks clear English, pausing now and then to let his mechanical breather work.

"++This is the R.Z.S. Batruka of the First Fleet, Republic of Zeleniy... Lord Admiral Burydi representing the Zeleniyan military and the Czar."

"Multiple contacts!"

"Identify."

"Reading Zeleniyan and Korrae IFF signatures, Admiral. They are hailing us, and broadcasting messages."

"Send word down to the VIP quarters, let the President know. Keep us at condition two for now, but don't launch a CAP yet."

The operator saluted and returned to his post, and the Admiral was left to stare at the command table's tactical map. The three fleets had kept a comfortable distance between one another, and the USC's traditional wedge formation put the Carentan in the center of the equilateral triangle that the battle group had formed. The dreadnought 'Dauntless' had taken point, while the carrier Juno remained protected by the two battleship escorts. The rest of the fleet, the auxiliary ships, they had jumped behind the cover of one of the moons in the system. They weren't combat ships: mobile hospitals, repair yards, troop transports, cargo ships, even the occasional sensor ship were present, all ready to provide for the logistic needs of the five warships.

A message was sent back to the two fleets, in the voice of a female they had undoubtedly heard before: the President of the United Systems.

"Lord Admiral, Councilor-General. Thank you for making it here on such short notice. We are waiting for at least a few more races before we begin. The Admiral wanted me to inform you that the Carentan Battle Group remains at condition two, and wishes to ask if it would be alright with you if we launched a few fighter squadrons for a patrol."

"We have entered the system as ordered, Ma'am."

"Good work, Ensign. Broadcast a message to the USC fleet concerning our arrival. I also want the battle-group in a FAST PACE defensive posture, understand?"

"Understood, sir."

And what was asked, had been done. A message sent to the USC battle-group, and the Federation's fleet was in a FAST PACE defensive posture, the various cruisers of the group moving into place and assuming the aforementioned position. With some damages being reported on one of the cruisers after the jump, drones from the battle-group's support element had done what they do best, welding and wiring what had been misplaced or destroyed in the jump. The repairs were soon complete and a personnel drop-ship was let go from the cargo bay of the capital ship and headed towards one of the man cruisers on the edge of the circular formation, soon docking with one, dropping off what was needed and head back to its home, Rhineland,

"++ Ships of the USC, this is Hoefler of the FKS. Rhineland of the Unified and Collective Federation of Prefectures. I am here representing the Federation on behalf of the Kaiser, Crown Prince, and the Bundesnachrichtendienst. I understand that the Crown Prince had attempted communications and said that he would personally be accompanying the battle-group to this system, though something has come up in the royal family. I am sure you can understand. ++"

"New contact, bearing one three five mark two two one. Scratch that, multiple contacts, no recognisable IFF."

"Send hostile challenge and-"

"Sir, wait. Recognition codes match the message we received earlier, they are friendly. We are being sent a message."

"Lets hear it."

The Admiral was, of course, happy to meet another human faction after so long. All other indications pointed to a German origin, and the ship's name confirmed it with certainty. He didn't respond just yet though, instead studying the passive scans of the new fleet on his command table; it was a sizeable battle group, about the same number of ships as SBG-12, although most of them were considerably smaller. It was a cruiser fleet, apparently, with a capital ship leading it. The capital ship itself was impressive, and he was sure he wouldn't want to fight it at any point soon. With his inspection of the new data complete, he picked up the phone, had the operator connect him to the Rhineland, and then begun to speak into it.

"This is Rear Admiral William Jones, commander of the United System Confederation's Twelvth Supercarrier Battle Group and captain of the USS Carentan. Thank you for responding to our message to attend this summit. We understand the Crown Prince's business completely, we are still honoured to have you here. Before the summit, I would like to ask: has your world been attacked by the Alarei yet? They have attacked every major space-faring civilization we know of so far."

"They are asking about the Alarei, Ma'am."

"Move, get up."

And without a word the young communications officer vacated his seat and allowed the business suited woman to take it. The blonde haired woman donned the officer's headset and proceeded to press down on one of the various buttons that were attached to the console, this one more akin to a switch than a button, the BND operative then spoke into the microphone.

"++ The Alarei? The ones who saw it fit to attack and destroy Sol almost three centuries ago? No, we have had no contact with them, in hundreds of years, or any other warmongering nations, Admiral. I am sure that the royalty of the Federation will be very eager to hear that they are back. This is very saddening news. ++"

"Should I alert the rest of the fleet and send a priority message to Hunsrück so they can prepare defense for nuclear attack?"

"No, you should not. I would rather not start civil unrest and make the jobs of the provincial police even harder. They have enough going on with the S'Quojizahian situation, understood?

"Understood, Ma'am"

Now the communications deck of the Rhineland was awkwardly silent with the mention of the Alarei, as many of the members of the armed forces were forced to take classes regarding the Federation's history, both on Hunsrück as well as Earth. Faces were grave, and even Hoefler, the young BND operative gave a hint to their nervousness. Soon the ship's captain was notified and all crew members were under an oath of silence until the situation was cleared up, or resolved.

Little later, a small blink is observed from a minor distance. A tiny object emerges from its warp, approaching the summit. As it gets closer and closer, its form gets more clear to the surrounding fleets: a shuttle. A small, dull grey shuttle. It sends off a simple audio message, clad in a deep and charismatic voice:

"This is the People's Society speaking, requesting docking rights for USC Carentan. Good to see you all."

It appears the People have only brought this shuttle, with their sole leader residing on it. Unlike the other races, who've all brought fleets.

Immediately after the transmission from the Rhineland, a databurst was sent towards the ship on an encrypted channel. It included a lot of information on the Alarei, both from the first war era and current, along with the schematics of the ships that attacked the United Systems and the other races and detailed blueprints on the new Alarei exoskeletons. it was followed by live footage of the dreadnoughts being destroyed by the USC's battlegroups, with a tactical commentary pointing out the weak points in the hull design as discovered by the fleets. The USC seemed to be in a good mood today: they were freely distributing information, a very rare thing for them.

The upload had just finished when the People's shuttle jumped in, and was picked up by the Carentan's sensors.

"Contact, bearing one seven one mark zero six seven. Receiving recognition codes... It's from the Society, Admiral. Small shuttle. They are requesting permission to dock."

Admiral Jones nodded, turning his head to face the Landing Signals Officer. Since no objections had been stated by the races in the area, it seemed easy to kill two birds with one stone.

"Launch Red Devil squadron, have them escort the shuttle in and then commence a CAP around the battle group."

"Aye aye." calmly replied the officer, pressing a few buttons on his console to activate the intercom to the alert fighters and hangar bay. "Launch Red Devil squadron. Comms, patch me in to the shuttle."

Twenty-two new RADAR contacts would appear on the sensors of any ships in the area. Judging by their IFF codes and proximity to the USS Carentan, they would seem to be Cobra MKVI attack fighters just launched from the side of the starboard hangar bays. They fired up their engines and commenced their approach to the shuttle, while a message was sent to it from the supercarrier itself.

"TPS Shuttle zero-zero-one, you have been cleared to land in starboard landing deck one alpha. Red Devil squadron will escort you to the bay, we are transmitting instructions now. Please do not open any hatches after landing, EVA crews will move your shuttle to an elevator."

"Come on, we don't have all day!"

The engineers and deck crew inside the hangar hurried to clear space in the deck, while the shuttle elevator was sent up to the landing deck. There was plenty of space in the landing deck itself, but after the shuttle had landed, it would have to be moved to one of the elevators and lowered back inside the hangar bay; there was no atmosphere in the landing deck, after all. A heavy power loader moved a stack of guided missiles away, since the fighters had already launched, and one of the Blackbird stealth recon craft that was being serviced was pulled aside by a massive tank-like vehicle. That left the honor guard just enough room to assemble, and they assumed an idle posture.

The small shuttle sent a single acknowledgement by the same man.

"Thank you, Carentan. Over and out."

It then awaited its escort, before effectively following its lead towards deck one. If allowed, the ship would attempt its landing, small landing systematics extending.

From the interior of the landing deck, its gargantuan scale would become obvious: at almost two kilometers in length, about six times the height of the Eifel Tower before it was destroyed on Earth, and with a height of almost fifty meters, Landing Deck 1-A was actually a gigantic piece of hollowed out armor. It was designed to withstand a direct hit from a nuclear warhead on the exterior, while also surviving a theoretical incident involving nuclear ordinance from the inside. The walls were covered in a combination of titanium, ceramic and aramid materials all weaved together in a carbon nanotube lattice, with a graphene exterior for added heat resistance. Dull, gray paint provided further insulation. The words LANDING DECK S-1-A were painted in blue on the port wall in a neutral military font, while a few words were visible on the entrance to the landing corridors.

A massive '88' was painted on the background of the letters, with the seal of the USS Carentan directly below it.

The landing corridors themselves were spartan: a series of deck-length neon-blue lights dictated the borders, while flashing lights provided guidance for the incoming aircraft. Right now, the lights were guiding the shuttle to the port-most corridor, which had been illuminated appropriately. More specifically, it had been pointed to a different surface: an elevator. Its borders glowed neon-green to set it apart from the rest of the deck, and the docking instructions mentioned that any magnetic clamps should be activated as soon as the ship touched down.

As soon as the craft landed, a powerful magnetic field was generated between the landing gear and the elevator. The machine's hydraulics started to deflate, lowering the elevator, and the vehicle, down through a dark tunnel. A series of blast doors sealed above the shuttle, and the repressurization and decontamination sequence followed. Before long, the elevator continued, the hangar and maintenance deck becoming visible at last.

The concept of aesthetics had clearly been something lacking in the man who designed this hangar deck. Fighters, bombers, shuttles, even the occasional tank were spread all over the deck, cramped together like sardines in a can. Humans in large powered exoskeletons and automated forklifts moved fuel tanks, missiles and bullet racks around, while the engineers and deckhands worked on the vehicles being maintained. The universally known signs for explosive and flammable materials, radiation and toxic chemicals were painted all over the machines and ordinance, as were the less common signs of potentially dangerous nanotechnology and hazardous laser frequencies. Bright blue and white flashes filled areas of the deck once in a while, a side-effect of the intense plasma welding occurring.

The elevator came to a graceful halt at the bottom of the deck, just as a powered loader passed by carrying what seemed to be a bomber-mounted tactical nuclear weapon. It was followed by a small squad of power-armor clad marines, evidently escorting the warhead to its destination.

Opposite of the shuttle's hatch, a platoon of soldiers in the traditional USMC Honor Guard uniform were standing at attention, complete with their G6 Ceremonial Battle Rifles. The G6 was better known for its use during the Alarei wars, an ancient weapon by all accounts, but the overly angled weapon was still used by ceremonial units throughout the Confederation. An officer in an identical uniform stood in front of the formation, with a short woman in formal attire next to him, and an older man in a Navy Formal Dress Uniform on the other side. A single golden star was placed against each shoulder pad, and multiple decorations were pinned against his upper chest.

As the shuttle idly descended, its hatch locks commenced to deactivate. A few seconds after hitting the metal floor, the hatch started to extend, slowly but steadily opening itself to reveal its insides. And reveal its insides it did. After a minor moment of hissing noises emitting from the ship's sides, a tall figure emerged. At first glance a seemingly normal People soldier; at more thorough examination, a whole different figure indeed. His armor's somewhat whiter and brighter, together with a slightly differing helmet, mostly the part in front of his alleged mouth. But the most prominent differentiation is a small ornament on his right chest-plate: a golden medal with a red star on it. It appears old and worn, but well-maintained. His armor appears less worn than most, with practically no rust. He does have 3 scratches on his helmet's forehead, however, and a couple of others spread around his tin suit. Perhaps a scar from battle? Not very fitting for 'the great and ominous leader', or at least the expectations of such. Besides that, his armor has no major differences. That's about all there is to read about him, his face covered like any other soldier. Although he doesn't share their 'neutral' demeanor, not in stance and not in movement. He appears confident, but not arrogant. Professional, but not stiff. Powerful, but not buff.

At his sides and slightly behind him reign two People soldiers, carrying rifles on their back and scars on their suits. The trio then moves forward. They walk past the ceremonial soldiers, approaching the other trio steadily.

The scarred Lord-Admiral sets the microphone aside, he turns away and has a coughing fit. Regaining his composure, he turns and points to the Captain as he hobbles past,"Prepare a ship, while the safety of your ship is appreciated, Kaptionniy, we're not to make ourselves look like cowards." He makes his way down the steps of the Captain's command room, wheezing heavily. He steps onto the Captain's personal elevator, the two marine guards following him and standing on either side. "I'll have one squad of my personal detachment to accompany me, otherwise all I require is a gasmask." The Captain salutes him,"Aye, Lord-Admiral." The Lord-Admiral returns a slacked salute and presses a button on the elevator.

A communications officer relays a message in English, albeit with a heavy accent.

"++R.Z.S. Batruka to USC Carentan, tovarisch Lord-Admiral Burydi requests permission to dock with his security detachment, over.++"

Starboard Hangar Bay 1-A

"Detail, hand salute!"

The platoon of Marines crisply saluted the Leader and his escorts as they moved, as an obvious sign of respect for the figure; they remained otherwise still, trained perfectly to present a precise and strong act to any domestic or foreign officials. The Admiral was first, extending his hand to the Leader for a shake. Unlike the President, he was tall, and while he was no athlete, he had a distinctly military build. In contrast, she was shorter than average, with military-cut black hair and dull hazel eyes, and black formal attire with a pin of the United Systems' flag. He spoke firmly, with the tone of someone who had served in the military for a long time..

"Leader. Welcome aboard the Carentan, it is an honour to have you here. I am Admiral Jones, commander of the USS Carentan and her battle group."

Both landing requests were granted, and fighter escorts were dispatched to bring the shuttles in. The two craft used by the representatives seemed to have been instructed to land in the same hangar bay as the People had, starboard bay 1-A. The elevator blast doors opened, allowing them to land directly on them without the need for an EVA by the Carentan's deck crew.

The large Zeleniyan dropship descends into the hangar, securing itself into one of the magnetic clamps. The back of the dropship opens, and 3 short and stocky Rhg'Zezians step out. They are clad in black and red OMON exoskeletons, wielding high grade Kalashnikovs. Their faves are obscured by their gas masks and helmets. As they walk forward, their heavy metal limbs clank and creak.

From behind them The Lord-Admiral, standing at 5'5'', limps out slowly. His bald head is a pale grey, his eyes, surprisingly organic, a dull sulfurous yellow. His nose, mouth, and other facial features are obscured by a black mask connected by tube to his life-support chassis. He wears a heavy, dark trench coat with a ceremonial breast plate, and large boots. He limps without any indication of hurry, to the ceremonial marine platoon. Three other guards follow down the ramp and form a loose circle around him. The guards aim their weapons downward at the floor, keeping only one hand on the handle and letting the sling carry the weapon. The Lord-Admiral wheezes and coughs as he moves across the room to greet the delegates.

The tall leader figure smoothly walks in between the two rows of ceremonial soldiers, his loyal entourage following suit. His arms hang at his sides, moving along, before his right hand reaches for the Admiral's, firmly shaking it, the way only a fellow soldier could. And then he speaks. His voice is warm, soothing, and most of all comforting. It certainly increases his charm. But it's also strong and deep; fierce. If anything, it's calm.

"Thank you for your warm and... professional welcome, admiral. Rest assured, the honor is all mine. I've heard many things of the great Carentan, and of its commander."

His two soldiers keep their distance, idly observing the trio and the ceremonial rows.

Once it had finished landing procedures, the starboard airlock of the Union shuttle released an audible click, before parting to reveal two towering figures; Councillor-General Wruhm Harz, and High Councillor Feris Zhan. The former of which wore a decorative, ceromonial armour which, despite what one might have thought, provided more protection than one would have expected for such a 'formal' attire, and a scar could be seen which ran down the side of the C-G's jawline, whilst with the High Councillor, he wore something more formal, a robe. Accompanying them were five Marines, a mixture of Rakhan and Human, all of them belonging to the adaptive services 'elite' division of the Union Navy. Stepping forth, the Councillor General lead the way, whilst Zhan and the Marines closely followed suit.

The detachment's marines maintained their salute as the envoys from the Korrae Union and the Republic of Zeleniy passed through, lowering their hands afterwards at their officer's command. The Admiral made sure to shake the hands of all the representatives, while the President waited patiently; she was going to let the ship's commander do the introductions, as expected by tradition. "Councilor-General, High Councilor, Lord Admiral. It's a pleasure to finally meet you all in person. I am Rear Admiral William Jones, commanding officer of both the Carentan and the twelfth battle group. Welcome aboard our humble vessel."

Despite the commotion, the deckhands continued with their daily tasks. A powered loader approached the shuttles, which had been pushed farther down the deck, and delivered several sealed containers of Helium-3, Oxygen and Hydrogen to them, allowing their crews to take care of refueling operations.

"Hoefler, Ma'am. It seems that the other delegates are sending shuttles to dock with the USC flashship. Shall I send a docking request?"

"Yes, do what you must. Get my team assembled as well.

The young communications officer did just that, "Attention on the Rhineland! Attention on the Rhineland! Master Sergeant Herrmann, report to the shuttle docking bay with your team immediately!" With that announcement the Special Forces attaché had started preparing their gear, strapping themselves into their suits and priming their weapons. They were soon assembled in the docking area for one of the various VIP shuttles docked to the capital ship, awaiting further orders from the BND representative, Hofler.

"++ USC. Carentan, as the other members of this summit have seem to have sent shuttles to board your vessel, we at the Rhineland are adopting a ‘monkey see, monkey do’ policy. And by that, we wish to send a shuttle of our own. ++"

It was with this that both Councillors shook the Rear Admiral's hand, Harz doing so first, before stepping aside to allow Zhan to do so. Then, the High Councillor spoke with a formal and well spoken, yet friendly tone.

"Such pleasure is mutual, Rear Admiral. It is an honour to meet you, as it is to meet you as well, Madame President."

It was with this that Zhan's focus shifted towards the President, and he bowed his head to both, whilst the Councillor General did very much the same as their Marine escorts offered the two important individuals Union salutes.

Her power-armoured guards seemed tense, judging from their straight posture and tight grip on their fifty caliber battle rifles, but one didn't get into the Secret Service without having some healthy paranoia. "Leader, Lord-Admiral, Councilors. Thank you for accepting our invitation. Both Councillors firmly shook President McKinley's hand whilst the Marine Operatives maintained their salutes, until she'd finished shaking hands with both individuals. It was shortly after this point that Zhan made yet another comment, after the President had finished speaking.
