Unknown System
S.E.S.N Imperial Frigate Havok

What would otherwise be a peaceful system of gas giants and moons had otherwise become the place of a great disaster - at least, for those aliens aboard the S.E.S.N [i]Havok. Pirates had been running rampant in the system as of late, and the scouting frigate had learned that the hard way. From out of a small asteroid base propelled several fighters moving at speeds unparalleled by the Exthuran vessels, leaving no hope for the ship or its crew. Its defenses were pierced and its engines rendered offline - now the ship was burning, and was plummeting toward the system's sun.

Several Yurdu grunts scurried about in the chaos as collected Imperial troopers worked to fix the problem to no avail. The ship's pilots had been killed in the initial blasts, and there was no way this ship was turning around any time soon. The captain's decision turned to his only option:

Help.

++-Attention all spacefaring vessels, Exthuran or otherwise. This is Captain Jorvoekur of the S.E.S.N Havok. Our vessel has been attacked by pirates and we are being pulled into the sun's atmosphere. We will die. We request aid be sent to our location at coordinates [011;0G]. We have 200 Exthurans and 300 Yurdu on board at the present time. We are standing by. I repeat,...-++

The message repeated over and over. The captain's voice was monotone and without worry, but the sounds of explosions and high-pitched wailing could just be identified in the background.

USS Murphy
Combat Information Center
Mission: Astrogeological Survey

"Receiving emergency distress call from near the system's star, skipper."

"Analyze it, and get me some jump coordinates nearby."

The captain waited. The Murphy had been on a geological survey of one of the moons of the third gas giant, searching for titanium deposits when it had picked up the distant energy signatures of fighting within the system. The first move was to go silent; all systems were shut down, life support was put on reserve function and the main reactor was SCRAMed. The lights had dimmed to a mostly annoying illumination setting, both to conserve power and to ease the load on the actual emergency conduits. For all intents and purposes, the ship had made itself invisible to all sensors.

Then, the detailed telemetry came in. One of the ships had been disabled, and was giving off a distress signal; while the ship would normally ignore it, especially since it was so far away from reinforcements, the captain somehow doubted that was the best approach. As soon as the message was analyzed, he knew he had to do something, and do it fast.

"Mister Drako."

"Sir?"

"Order a nuclear ground-strike missile into launch tube one. XO."

"Aye?"

"Commence faster-than-light jump into coordinates, move us back to full power. Deploy two decoys."

Both officers went right to it; the TSO picked up the phone, dialed in a set of numbers and then put it against the side of his head. "Weapons, Conn. This is a nuclear mission order, load ground-strike missile into launch tube one. Order decoy drones into tubes four and five." Almost immediately, the CIC's consoles responded in kind: one of the main overhead displays above the operations table flickered to display the current status of launch tube one. The words LGM-3731b MIRV SLBM appeared on the current ammunition field, and an animation of the missile being loaded into the tube played out. The identical diagrams for the drones, identified as HAMMERHEAD MKVI DECOY DRONE were mostly ignored by the bridge crew.

In the meantime, the XO turned to the engineering operator. "Mister Gander, take us out of blackout mode. Conn, commence FTL jump to coordinates, full force ingress. Begin plotting emergency jump as soon as we arrive, stand by for evasive maneuvers."

Space Near the Havok

Any remaining fighters would find themselves in a nasty situation: space near the Havok rippled, and a kilometer-and-a-half vessel appeared from within the distortion, flak batteries pointed directly at the fighter squadrons. At the very same time, an intense radiological detection would be picked up: the cruiser was loading nuclear weapons. Strangely, sensors would pick up two more vessels, both of battleship size, similarly arming both nuclear and conventional weapons: a clever trick using two squadrons of decoy drones.

A message was sent to the pirates.

+"Attention unidentified attacking forces, this is the United Systems Ship Murphy. Stand down immediately, or we will launch nuclear weapons against your base. You are outgunned and outnumbered by our battlegroup. Stand down."+

Unknown System
S.E.S.N Imperial Frigate Havok

The U.S.S. Murphy would warp into the space near the Havok to see several fighters circling the frigate, just as a larger ship of the same design as the fighter's had breached the Havok's hull, successfully boarding the ship. The S.E.S.N Havok had turned into a battlezone.

What fighters remained heeded the warning of the new arrival, jumping out of the star's orbit in due time.

Within the Imperial frigate, Exthuran and Yurdu infantry and grunts were doing their best to dispatch their invaders, but with so many personnel dedicated to trying to save the ship, their efforts were futile.

++-Mayday, mayday, we have been boarded by hostile pirates. I repeat, we have been boarded by hostile pirates and are quickly approaching the sun. We are requesting immediate assistance and evacuation. I repeat-- AARRRGGH!-++ The transmission was reduced to static, presumably due to a damaged radio. The Exthurans were in trouble.

USS Murphy
Combat Information Center

"Missile is loaded, skipper!"

"Open launch tube one door, stand by for targetting package."

By now, the Starship Launched Ballistic Missile had been loaded into one of the bow launch tubes. The sensors and astrometrics staff had worked themselves to the brink trying to get jump coordinates for the nuclear missile, targeting it right outside the pirate base in the sector: there would be no mercy shown, it seemed. The United Systems had always been known to nuke whatever they couldn't fight fairly, and this situation was no different. Soon enough, the overhead display's missile diagram displayed an animation of the launch tube door opening. The missile was pushed forward by a set of electric motors, allowing its armored conical tip to present itself to the vacuum of space.

"Launch tube one depressurised and open. Standing by for target package."

"Load target package three-zero-six five-two-two nine-one-seven bravo shlash zero zero two mark zero zero eight."

The Captain wasn't reciting the target package coordinates, of course. He had just read the code out of the printed piece of paper, thanks in no small part to the crew manning the sensor arrays. Within a few seconds, the missile's targeting computer received the necessary coordinates.

"Target package verified, SLBM standing by for launch Captain."

"Release launch and detonation safeties on missile one."

"Launch and detonation safeties released, missile ready."

"Arm missile one."

Any sensors tasked with watching the newly-arrived cruiser would detect a radiation spike: the safeties had been disabled, and the warhead was armed. It was not spooling up its faster-than-light drive, awaiting to be launched at the pirate base. With the warhead safeties disabled, the yield of the weapon would be revealed: five hundred megatonnes estimated, divided between ten fifty-megaton MIRVed fusion weapons. The asteroid base had no chance against them, if the cruiser was to launch.

SESN Havok
Exterior Hull

Despite the threats of nuclear launch against the pirates, the USC seemed to also be mounting a boarding operation. A number of Chetco transports took off from the ventral hangar bay of the Murphy, and immediately begun to attach themselves to the hull of the helpless Havok. But they made no attempt to cut into the hull. Their purpose was much more sinister, at least towards the pirate boarding party. With haste, marines left the confines of the shuttles and used their magnetic boots to get to the area around the pirate boarding craft. They then immediately proceeded to plant shaped explosive charges to destroy the docking clamps, or whatever method of attachment the ship used, and detonated them with extreme caution. The Havok would be finally left free of the grasp of the pirate ship, which was promptly destroyed by the Murphy's flak systems.

It was then that the marines started to actually enter the Havok. Led by humanoid combat robots, they would shoot any pirates on their way using their railguns.

SESN Havok
Interior

The scene within the Havok was a disaster. As the humans cut down the pirate forces, it was evident that they were of the more gruesome variety. Corpses lay across the floor, blood spattered along the metal walls as the lights within the ship flickered on and off. Wails of anguish and the blaring ofsirens were not enough to muffle the gunshots and laserfire of all three sides. As the last pirate died, an Exthuran clad in Dravuk-8 armor rose from cover, waving to greet his saviors.

It spoke to them in a foreign language, assuming they would be able to understand,

"Your arrival is well-timed; we were almost decimated. Our captain was slain in the initial boarding, along with much of our crew. There is no time to waste. The ship will be pulled into the sun's gravity in a matter of minutes, and at that point we will all be doomed."

The survivors of the Havok's crew, a total of about 50 Exthurans and 120 Yurdu gathered toward the humans, awaiting evacuation.

SESN Havok
Interior

The human boarding party likewise assembled in a circle formation, to keep the crew from approaching the commanding officer. He seemed to be in the middle of a radio call, speaking in muffled buzzes through his helmet to an unknown figure. The conversation didn't last for long, though: the officer, a Major in rank judging by his rank insignia, approached the Exthuran that had spoken to the detail and offered him a light nod of his helmet.

<:: Transports are en-route now. After we are safely aboard the Murphy, it will try to latch onto your ship and pull it through an assisted FTL jump. The critically wounded go on the first transport, understood? ::>

Confirming the officer's promise, the ship shook slightly as the first Chetco transport attached itself to the hull. The wall on the opposite side of the chamber where the crew had assembled was promptly cut down using a plasma torch, allowing them access to the spacious interior of the cargo craft. It would seem to have space for fifty people, plus the pilots and gunnery staff.

SESN Havok

The exthurans and yurdu aboard the Havok lined up in front of the doorway leading into the first transport hold. Injured exthurans were the first to enter, then injured yurdu, then healthy exthurans, followed finally by any remaining yurdu on board. The exthuran who had spoken to the humans, signified as the equivalent to a Chief Petty Officer both by his armor and insignia , was the last to board into the cargo.

Three more dropships, in addition to the one that had just docked, picked up the survivors and promptly took off again. They landed on the ventral docking bay of the Murphy, just as it begun to latch itself on the alien vessel. A series of magnetic clamps secured around the hull, much like the tentacles of an octopus, and metal rods were stabbed into it to secure the connection. A few seconds later, the Murphy begun to power up its jump drive, extending the field around the drifting vessel.

As soon as the doors opened, the survivors were greeted by a massive landing bay, full with humans working on the various gunships within it. No officers seemed in place to greet them just yet.
